The second half of May presents longer-lasting planetary transit effects, encouraging your evolution—some point to tense currents of life that require resolution. On a lighter note, the month ends with a shift towards creative playfulness and celebration. 5/11 - 5/22 Mercury Sextile Saturn As Mercury is out of Retrograde, it continues making a positive Sextile with Saturn, as my last astrology report discussed. This Sextile began on May 11th and continues through May 22nd and is a helpful transit for mental focus and direction. Mercury Sextile Saturn can help you discern what’s worth your time to put your attention towards during these dates. If you have been feeling scattered in the uprising of Spring energy, this is a support time to feel mentally grounded. Mercury Sextile Saturn can also have you continuing to turn your attention towards having matter-of-fact conversations and feeling mentally focused on the practical matters of life. It’s a good time to figure out things around communications with others. Saturn brings practical grounding; the Sextile makes for harmonious interplay in Mercury’s realms of thought and communication. 5/17 - 5/29 Jupiter Square Pluto Jupiter makes a challenging square aspect with Pluto in the last two weeks of May. This planetary configuration can strongly emphasize your exploration of the directions you are taking in your life. You may feel a persistent urge to move forward and do whatever it takes to get to the next place in your journey. Any difficulties showing up during this time can allow you to take inventory of what is and isn’t working in your pursuit of success. Ultimately, one of the best ways to work with this transit is to look at whatever conflicts or challenges are showing up to help you become more aware if you’re genuinely on the right path for growth and expansion. From May 19th - 29th, notice if the urge to push through on something is making things worse or better for you. If it’s seemingly worse, ask yourself: Is your ego in the driver's seat of your decisions and making things more difficult for you? Pluto has a way of transforming whatever needs to go through a death & rebirth process, and this transit with Jupiter has the potential to help you sculpt your path of expansion forward by chiseling away and refining aspects of your forward arc to allow for a renewed and clarified sense of forward momentum. What needs to be hewn off or sanded away to give your bearing a more accurate vision? 5/19/23 New Moon in Taurus On Friday, May 19th, we have a New Moon in Taurus. In astrology, when the Moon is in Taurus, it is in an exalted position; our fluid, ever-changing moon of reflective feelings shines well with the stability Taurus brings. This year’s Taurus New Moon is accompanied by a great assembly of planets in Taurus adjacent to the Moon, the Sun, Mercury, Jupiter, and North Node. This crew offers a possibility for expanding and evolving your state of mind with grounded awareness. Close to the Sun and Moon, we have Uranus also in Taurus, pointing to evolutionary movement. This Taurus New Moon offers a doorway for grounded presence as a springboard towards a quantum leap in consciousness. 5/20 - 5/27 Mars opposes Pluto When Mars opposes Pluto on the 20th through the 27th, ego drives can activate intensely, and more conflicts could occur. The energy of this transit helps you push forth from your own conviction and direction. Still, the challenge is to not do it in such a way that inappropriately presses on others’ boundaries, as it’s a vital time for self-assertiveness. A way to work with the Mars/Pluto energy during these dates is first to recognize if you're operating from a place that needs to compete or fight on something. Conflicts with others during the 20th - 27th can point to areas where you can be more cooperative to have the overall outcome you are looking for regarding any matters at hand. This period could be a good time to take advantage of the more assertive energy you may feel coming through you. If you are having a difficult time, then this energy can help you take appropriate action for yourself or make your boundaries clear. 5/21 - 5/27 Mars Square Jupiter Along with Mars opposing Jupiter and Jupiter Squaring Pluto, Mars will make a Square with Jupiter during the same time (May 21st - 27th). You may experience intense circumstances or interactions with the people around you. Jupiter’s energy can make things bigger with whatever it influences, for better or worse, and with action-oriented Mars Squaring Jupiter, it can cause any problematic situation to seem worse. Mars with Jupiter can activate you to assert yourself in more significant ways than you might be used to. On a less intense note, Mars Squaring Jupiter can have you moving and taking action on things in many directions. Notice if you have too many irons in the pot, scattering your physical energy from May 21st - 27th. Mars is about taking bold action, and Jupiter is about feeling optimistic about expanding yourself in various directions. Think about everything you have going on these days and notice if you’re trying to “do it all” in a way that takes you further away from your center and tips your scales to feeling more scattered and less accomplished. Mars Square Jupiter can give you a sense of having an abundance of physical energy. If you want to tackle many things from the 21st - 27th, I recommend picking 2-3 things that are the most important to put your energy towards, which will give you tremendous success at accomplishing what you set out to do. It’s a charged and potent time to work some things out. 5/26 - 5/29 Venus Sextile Uranus From May 26th through the 29th, as we head into the holiday weekend, most of the intense astrological energy will likely lighten up. You may find yourself shifting into more accessible spaces that connect you to what new things you’re creating out of your recent transformations. When we genuinely move away from old ways of being, we feel a sense of wild horse freedom that allows us to move forward. As the final weekend of May comes in, Venus Sextile Uranus opens more flow for you to engage socially in ways that connect you to creative play, beauty, and art. Allow this fun and exploratory opening to provide new and loving experiences with people, places, and things, combined with your unique expression of who you are! Venus brings all the beauty of love, the arts, sharing the pleasures of the moment like food and music. Here Uranus being in harmonious Sextile Venus, fosters the qualities of a Bacchus-party essence with a flare of novelty and playfulness in the celebration of life! ~ With astrology, the most helpful advice is always individual and personalized based on your astrology birth chart and life situations. Full Moon, Lunar Eclipse + Mercury going DirectWelcome, May! Magnolias are blooming beautifully in the Pacific Northwest; our season of renewal has sprung into life. Are you feeling the urge to burst into new pathways? The astrology over the next few weeks can help you navigate what you're considering and the timing on when and how to move into new terrain. 5/3/23 - 5/5/23 Venus Square Neptune Venus Sextile Jupiter On May 3rd - 5th, Venus makes aspects with Neptune and Jupiter. This is an interesting combo, as all three planets are the money planets; when we look at the astrology chart to see into money, one of the things we look to see is the planetary placements and aspects of Venus, Jupiter, and Neptune. Therefore, if money has been a strong topic in your life recently, whether you want to save, invest, sort out debts, or make an expensive purchase, then it’s essential to consider the astrological aspects occurring during the 3rd through the 5th. Mercury continues to be in retrograde until the 14th. It would be advisable not to make big decisions until after the 14th. Decision-making and processing may not be as clear during Mercury retrograde. We are also in eclipse season, making it not the best time to start new things. (More on the May 5th Eclipse below) Amidst Mercury's retrograde and a Lunar eclipse, Venus, Jupiter, and Neptune present interesting dynamics: On May 3rd - 5th, Venus is simultaneously making both an easy and positive aspect (Sextile to Jupiter) and a challenging aspect (Square to Neptune). If you are thinking about money decisions (spending or making) during these days, it would be wise to consider what’s happening astrologically. Venus and Jupiter are the benefics of astrology, meaning they open you up to experiences that can bring good things. Venus allows for ease, love, beauty, and receiving of gifts. Venus and Jupiter in Sextile can open you up to feeling optimistic and seeing the good things that can come your way. However, when Venus makes a Square with Neptune, the things you feel good about can glow brightly with allurement that is idealized and illusionary. It’s wise to enjoy the grandeur of what may be possible and take care not to lean too far from your own center of gravity and grounded sensibility for what is truly possible. This is a great time to catch a vision and let it settle before acting. Therefore, I recommend noticing what’s coming up for you and your ideas and feelings about your money from the 3rd through the 5th. You may be able to open up to ideas you haven’t thought of, opportunities that are now available to you… and it is astrologically indicated to give it more time and thought before you jump in. In addition, if you can hold off until Mercury goes direct on or after the 14th, you may enjoy a clearer sense of what is the right move for you. These aspects can have us jumping in too big or biting off more than we can chew, so before you decide to execute big ideas, wait until this transit is over (after the 5th) to see what is still real for you. 5/5/23 Full Moon Scorpio 10:34 AM, PDT Penumbral Lunar Eclipse 10:22 AM, PDT We are in an eclipse season. First, there was a Solar Eclipse on the New Moon of April 19th. Then a Lunar Eclipse, two weeks later, on May 5th, as the Full Moon in Scorpio occurs with a Lunar Eclipse. (Solar Eclipses always occur on a New Moon; Lunar Eclipses always happen on a Full Moon.) During eclipses, it’s best not to start new things, especially on the day of, as the energy is more about releasing old things versus building or creating new things. Unexpected things can happen when adventuring onto a new path during the Eclipse time, so it is good to heed this oft-cited astrological advice. FYI, the type of eclipse on the 5th is called a penumbral Lunar eclipse, where the Moon’s light isn’t entirely blocked (as is with a total eclipse) due to its position with Earth at this particular time. Although you won’t see a total eclipse of the Moon, the energy of an eclipse still holds sway. (see the image above, the Moon will be positioned in the penumbral zone on May 5th) Full Moons are good times for releasing, and the Scorpio energy is good support for letting things and emotions go. It would be helpful to hold this understanding on and around May 5th and work on releasing what you know in your life is showing you it’s time to let it go. The energy of eclipses can linger on for weeks to months, depending on how it interacts with your personal natal chart. The Eclipse on May 5th is happening at 14 degrees Scorpio. If you know how to look at your birth/natal astrology chart, you can see if the eclipse energy touches or influences particular personal realms of your life. 5/11/23 - 5/13/23 Mercury Sextile Saturn Mercury Sextile Venus Venus Trine Saturn The astrological transits for May 11th - 13th, involving Mercury, Venus, and Saturn, emphasize getting grounded in communications and relationships. These are also good days to create positive and stimulating conversations. Three transits are happening, and the first one - Mercury Sextile Saturn, can turn your attention towards having matter-of-fact conversations and feeling mentally focused on the practical matters of life. Mercury also makes a Sextile with Venus, with the second transit, and is helpful in business, negotiations, and communication aimed at profitable activities. People will want to hear what you have to say. Venus also influences our connection to relationships, and you may have opportunities for good chats with those close to you or in your intimate relationships. The energy supports mental processing with others in loving ways. Venus will make a Trine with Saturn in the third transit from the 11th to the 13th. Beauty and practicality come together nicely— these are good days to experience relationship balance and harmony in close friendships and intimate relationships. 5/14/23 Mercury goes Direct Mercury has retrograded since April 21st and will go direct on May 14th. When planets are retrograde, they appear to move backward in the sky from Earth’s vantage point. Mercury’s retrograde motion that began on April 21st covered the same celestial sky terrain as it did on April 7th - 21st. This retrograde energy can put you in rewind, review, and rework mode regarding the matters of your life during these April dates. Mercury goes direct on the 14th, so you may continue to work out the same things as it covers the same terrain again for a 3rd and last time in forward motion. Mercury will take until June 1st to return to the same place it was in Taurus before retrograding. June 1st will be when Mercury "gets out of its shadow”. This whole time from April 7th - June 1st may ask for your mental patience. The decision-making and communications you’re involved in may take longer to work out. If things have been confusing or you’ve been uncertain about how you will wrap your brain around situations in your life, things should become more apparent the closer we get to June 1st. Until Mercury goes Direct on the 14th, I recommend following the guidelines for Mercury retrograde; refer to my last blog post (April 17th - 30th) for tips on how to focus your time. ~ With astrology, the most helpful advice is always individual and personalized based on your astrology birth chart and life situations.
